It is important that the student marks all supplies with his/her name and make sure that they are placed in the assigned area at the end of each class period.
The art student will be expected to follow the rules of Northshore High School and St. Tammany Parish School Board. It is extremely important that all art students respect themselves, each other, the teacher, and all materials and equipment involved in the study of art this semester.
Evaluation in the first nine weeks will be based on exploratory approaches to drawing and design featuring more advanced techniques and media. Areas of study in the second nine weeks will focus on painting as a medium for self-expression. An expanded appreciation of art history will be integrated into work assigned. Production of a portfolio of original works is ongoing throughout the semester. Points will vary for each assignment. Most assigned work will be worth 100 points (50 points based on instructional criteria for the particular assignment and 50 points based on the overall visual composition created). Sketchbooks will be assessed weekly. They will be due at the beginning of the class period every Wednesday. Sketchbooks should include planning notes, preliminary sketches, and at least one drawing done outside of class time. Weekly sketchbook grades will be worth 25 points. An average of all work assigned will constitute 80% of the nine weeks grade. The nine weeks exam is worth 20%.
